Val Duarte and David Gauntlett are based at the Creativity Everything lab in The Creative School, Toronto Metropolitan University in Canada. This set of cards builds on their pioneering research into nature and the creative process.

Val Duarte

is Research and Project Manager at The Creativity Everything lab at The Creative School, Toronto Metropolitan University where she researches, designs and develops platforms for creativity with a deliberately inclusive and diverse agenda. She is also an arts worker and project leader whose independently run projects focus on educational programming and the implementation of learning opportunities for artists and creators such as mentorships programs, grant writing clinics, workshops and creative events. She is the author of various academic articles and the co-author of ‘Creating with Nature’ published by BIS in 2024.

David Gauntlett

is Canada Research Chair in Creative Practice at The Creative School, Toronto Metropolitan University, Toronto, where he leads the Creativity Everything lab and the Reframing Creativity project. He is the author of several books, including Creative Explorations (2007), Making Media Studies (2015), Making is Connecting (2011, second edition 2018) and Creativity (2022). He has made a number of popular online resources, videos and playthings, and has pioneered creative research and workshop methods. He has worked with a number of the world’s leading creative organizations, including the BBC, the British Library, and Tate. For 12 years he has worked with LEGO and the LEGO Foundation on innovation in creativity, play and learning.
